Christmas tree saving possibilities? it's still alive, any chance?

I know this seems silly, but here in pittsburgh we still got some cold weather, the tree that we put out a month and a half ago is still living, I mean it...it's boughs haven't lost their needles, it still smells great and the branches are limber and flexible....I hate killing these things year after year, is there anything I can do to save it...if I put it in water outdoors, will it ever sprout new roots, would it ever make it, or is it just folly....this one might actually stand a chance, but don't know a thing about pine trees....
